How to move a weapon skin to another gun in FiveM
A FiveM weapon skin does not add a new gun: it replaces the model of one that already exists, and the game finds each file by its name. That is why a skin made for the Pistol MK II (w_pi_pistolmk2) does not show up on the Pistol (w_pi_pistol), even though both are pistols.
The converter does for you what you would otherwise do by hand in OpenIV:
- It finds the weapon model (
.ydr), its close-up version (_hi), the textures (.ytd) and the magazines (_mag1,_mag2) in what you upload. - It renames them for the gun you pick. The model is not rebuilt: it stays identical to the original, which is what keeps the gun from coming out broken in game.
- If the skin has no close-up version, it copies the main model. Without it, you would see the stock gun in your hands.
- It warns you if the model is missing attachment points for the suppressor or flashlight, or if the target gun uses a magazine the skin does not include.
- It packs everything as a
.rpffor themodsfolder or as a resource for your server, with a README that explains where everything goes.
To install it, follow the guide to installing weapon skins in FiveM. If it does not load, the usual reason is the server’s pure mode. Looking for new skins? Have a look at our 3D weapon skins.
What it cannot do
- Move a texture-only skin (a
.ytdwithout its.ydr). - Open a
.rpfencrypted with OpenIV (NG). Upload it unencrypted, or export the.ydrand.ytdfiles and upload them on their own. - Move a skin from a pistol to another type of weapon, such as a rifle.
- Other pistols, like the Heavy Pistol or the Pistol .50: for now, only the six we have checked.
